The 95-year-old, longest-living former president "was admitted to Emory University Hospital this evening for a procedure to relieve pressure on his brain, caused by bleeding due to his recent falls," said the statement, adding that the procedure is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
Carter was most recently hospitalized on Oct. 22 for a minor pelvic fracture after falling in his home in Plains, Georgia. He was released two days later after being treated.
Carter, the 39th president of the United States serving between 1977 and 1981, "is resting comfortably," with his wife, Rosalynn Carter, accompanying him, according to the statement.
