BANGKOK, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's main state enterprise airport operator on Saturday informed the media that it will spend 393 billion baht (12.98 billion U.S. dollars) to expand and upgrade six airports as part of its 2017-2033 investment plans.

"The Airports of Thailand (AOT)'s board has already approved the budget," said AOT President Nitinai Sirismatthakarn. "We are aiming to boost the six airports capacity to accommodate 243.7 million passengers."

"Part of the budget will include the construction of a passenger terminal in the north of Suvarnabhumi International Airport," said Nitinai, adding "That itself will boost the airport's capacity by another 40 million passengers per year."

The budget will also include the old airport of Don Mueang's phase three project and Chiang Mai Airport's phase Two project.

AOT's six airports are Chiang Mai and Mae Fa Luang airports in the North, Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports in the Central Plain and Phuket and Hat Yai airports in the South.
