Uzbekistan's economy grows 5.5 pct in 2019

TASHKENT, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Uzbekistan's gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 5.5 percent exceeding the projected rate of 5.4 percent this year, Uzbek Ministry of Economy and Industry said Monday.

The inflation decelerated to 15.2 percent against the forecast of 15.5 percent in 2019, the ministry also announced.

The GDP growth of Uzbekistan this year was mainly provided by industry growth of 6.4 percent, in construction sector by 11.8 percent and services by 6.1 percent, the ministry said.

The country's GPD growth in 2018 was 5.1 percent, according to the ministry.

The GDP per capita amounted to 1,741 U.S. dollars, which is 13.6 percent increase compared with the results of 1,533 dollars in 2018, according to the ministry.

Despite the results achieved, the ministry said that GDP per capita lags significantly behind the global average.
