LUSAKA, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Zambia's President Edgar Lungu on Tuesday expressed deep sorrow for victims who have died of the novel coronavirus in China.
Lungu commended the Chinese government for its unmatched level of preparedness and tenacity demonstrated in handling the novel coronavirus epidemic since its outbreak.
On behalf of the government and in his own name, the Zambian leader expressed "heartfelt condolences to the Chinese government, the bereaved families and the people of" China, according to a statement released by his office.
Zambia stands in solidarity with the Chinese government, Lungu said, adding that he is confident through the relentless efforts of the Chinese government, there will be fewer infections and ultimately no further loss of lives.
Zambians living in China were receiving all the necessary support and attention during this period, added the president.
