YANGON, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's first pedestrian underpass project implemented by Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) will be built later this month, said a release from the Information Ministry late Tuesday.
The pedestrian underpass, with 3-meter height and 23.4-meter width, will be built on Pyay Road in Yangon to connect the Yangon Institute of Education (TTC) and Junction Square Shopping Centre.
The underpass project will cost nearly 2.15 billion kyats (1.4 million U.S. dollars) funded by YCDC and will feature escalators for people with disabilities.
For the construction of pedestrian underpass scheduled to be completed within this year, each section of Pyay road will be closed temporarily to reduce traffic from Friday, the ministry's release said.
