Singapore's manufacturing output increases 3.4 pct in January

The Singapore Economic Development Board announced on Wednesday that the country's manufacturing output grew 3.4 percent year on year in January, following a year-on-year decline of 3.7 percent last December.

Excluding biomedical manufacturing, the output decreased 3.8 percent year on year in January. Last December, the output excluding biomedical manufacturing decreased 4.4 percent year on year.

On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, Singapore's manufacturing output increased by 18.2 percent in January. Excluding biomedical manufacturing, the output rose 11.8 percent.

As for the performance of different clusters, the electronics cluster's output decreased 7.2 percent year on year in January.

Meanwhile, the biomedical manufacturing cluster's output jumped 41.1 percent year on year while the precision engineering cluster's output expanded 18.1 percent. The transport engineering cluster's output contracted 9.3 percent, the chemicals cluster's output by 5.5 percent, and the general manufacturing industries cluster's output decreased 10.6 percent.
