Simon Birmingham, Australia's minister for trade, tourism and investment, on Wednesday joined business leaders in Mumbai to launch a store on Amazon India offering thousands of Australian products.
The announcement came during an Australia-India Business Exchange delegation to India aimed at marketing premium Australian brands to Indian consumers.
Birmingham said in a press release that the Australian store on Amazon India would be a game-changer for Australian brands in India.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), India was Australia's eighth-largest trading partner in financial year 2018-29.
"Thousands of Australian food, health and lifestyle brands will now be available at the click of a button in the world's fastest-growing consumer market, thanks to this partnership," Birmingham said.
"Having a dedicated one-stop-shop for Australian brands on one of the largest online marketplaces in India is a huge win for Australian businesses. Amazon has the highest share of customers across all marketplaces in a country of 1.3 billion people. That represents eye-watering potential for many Australian businesses."
"Australia enjoys a brand synonymous with quality and safety. This partnership will help Indian consumers seeking our safe and high-quality products to connect with those who are proudly making them in Australia."
Prior to embarking on the five-day trade mission with more than 100 business representatives, Birmingham said Australia was well-placed to benefit from India's economic boom.
"This partnership will make it easier and more cost-effective for Australian brands looking to expand into India and give Australian brands more exposure in one of the fastest-growing economies," he said.
"This is a major win for Australian brands and an exciting step in building ... a commercial profile in the booming Indian economy."
