Indonesia has started building a hospital for patients infected by contagious diseases on Galang Island in Kepulauan Riau province.

The hospital will have better facilities so that patients infected by the diseases can be treated maximally and fast, Indonesian Military Commander Air Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, who visited the location for the planned hospital, said on Sunday.

The military will help construct the new hospital which will have two facilities, comprising one quarantine facility and one facility for isolation or medical treatment, he remarked.

The hospital will have 1,000 beds and 50 isolation rooms comprising 20 rooms for non-intensive care treatment and 30 for intensive care treatment, and all of the rooms will be equipped with negative air pressure, according to him.

Meanwhile, Albert Reinaldo, a senior official at the Public Works and Housing Office in the province, pointed out that the hospital will be built on 7-to-8 hectares of land, and is expected to be completed within one month, media reported.

"The works of land clearing commenced on Saturday," Reinaldo said.

Spokesman for the novel coronavirus related matters Achmad Yurianto said two more people tested positive for COVID-19 virus, bringing the total number of the cases to six in Indonesia.

Currently, Indonesia has 14 referral hospitals at the national level for tackling COVID-19. More than 130 hospitals at the provincial and district levels are prepared to treat those infected by the virus.
