U.S. Senator and former Democratic presidential contender Kamala Harris said Sunday that she is endorsing former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden's White House bid.

The California Democrat, who ended her presidential campaign late last year, said in a statement that she believes in Biden and that she will "do everything" in her power to help his election.

"I truly believe our nation is at an inflection point," she said. "And the decision voters make this November will shape the country and the world our children and grandchildren will grow up in."

A 77-year-old moderate political veteran, Biden is leading in the Democratic primary after a comeback victory on "Super Tuesday," followed by Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, a 78-year-old champion of progressive policies.

They are seen as the last two viable candidates seeking to challenge sitting President Donald Trump, whom the Republican Party is expected to nominate for a second term during August's national convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Also in the Democratic race is Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii, who has trailed well behind Biden and Sanders.

Democratic primary voters will cast ballots in six state primaries, including battleground Michigan, on March 10.
