New Zealand stock market's indicator, the S&P/NZX 50 index, dropped sharply by 3.69 percent to 9,115 on Thursday, after Wednesday's small growth following more than a week of sharp dives driven by uncertainties caused by the global COVID-19 epidemic.

On Thursday, eight new COVID-19 cases were reported in New Zealand after another eight new cases were confirmed on Wednesday, bringing the country's total to 28.

The drop was led by Michael Hill International Limited, which went down by 34.21 percent to 0.25 NZ dollars (0.14 U.S. dollars), while Marlin Global Limited jumped by 15 percent to 0.023 NZ dollars.
