Canadian wholesale sales up in January

Canadian wholesale sales rose for a second consecutive month, up 1.8 percent to 65.2 billion Canadian dollars (about 45 billion U.S. dollars) in January, according to Statistics Canada Monday.

All subsectors reported higher sales, gains were concentrated in the motor vehicle and motor vehicle parts and accessories and the miscellaneous subsectors. In volume terms, sales grew 1.7 percent.

Sales in the motor vehicle and motor vehicle parts subsector increased 3 percent to 11.3 billion Canadian dollars (about 7.8 billion U.S. dollars) in January.
