At 07:00 (AEST), the Australian dollar was buying 60.72 U.S. cents, up from 59.60 U.S. cents on Thursday.
U.S. jobless claims had topped 3 million was putting pressure on U.S. dollar. "U.S. jobless claims data came-in far worse than expected... and the COVID-19 crisis is still well out of control," IG Markets analyst Kyle Rodda said in a note.
At 09:30 (AEST), the local unit was buying 60.51 U.S. cents.
