U.S. dollar dips as risk appetite increases

NEW YORK, April 7 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar fell in late trading on Tuesday as risk appetite increased on growing hopes for progress in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, slid 0.78 percent at 99.9036 in late trading.

In late New York trading, the euro rose to 1.0902 U.S. dollars from 1.0797 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound increased to 1.2338 dollars from 1.2300 U.S. dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar was up to 0.6195 U.S. dollar from 0.6090 dollar.

The U.S. dollar bought 108.86 Japanese yen, lower than 109.05 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar was down to 0.9690 Swiss franc from 0.9782 Swiss franc, and it was down to 1.3992 Canadian dollars from 1.4118 Canadian dollars.
