TOKYO, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks ended sharply higher in volatile trading on Wednesday, as U.S. stock futures rebounding and the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar lifted the market mood.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 403.06 points, or 2.13 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 19,353.24.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 22.26 points, or 1.59 percent, to finish at 1,425.47.

Air transportation, land transportation and securities house-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
