SEOUL, April 13 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's automotive export rose last month thanks to the rollout of new models, a government report showed Monday.

Car export reached 210,900 vehicles in March, up 1.3 percent from a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. In terms of value, the auto shipment grew 3.0 percent to 3.82 billion U.S. dollars.

It was attributed to strong demand for newly launched vehicles and the higher number of working days last month compared with a year earlier.

The shipment of sport utility vehicles (SUVs) jumped 13.2 percent over the year to 138,837 units in March, marking the second-biggest monthly reading.

The environmentally-friendly vehicle export surged 36.9 percent to 26,073 units in the month.

Auto parts shipment added 0.5 percent to 1.94 billion U.S. dollars last month.

The number of cars produced in local factories was 369,165 in March, up 6.8 percent from a year earlier.

In the domestic market, car sale advanced 10.1 percent over the year to 172,956 units in March on the consumption tax cut and the carmakers' promotion of discounted auto sale.
