In terms of volume, export advanced 10.6 percent in March from a year earlier, after expanding 11.0 percent in the previous month, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).
It was attributable to solid demand for semiconductors. The COVID-19 outbreak across the world increased demand for information technology (IT) products, leading to higher chip demand.
The export volume for computers, electronic and optical devices, including chips, picked up 15.2 percent in March from a year earlier.
Chemical product shipment went up 11.2 percent, and transport equipment export gained 5.2 percent on demand from North America and Europe.
In terms of value, the outbound shipment added 0.4 percent last month, keeping an upward trend for two months in a row.
Import volume grew 1.5 percent on demand for machinery and equipment, while import value rose 1.5 percent in March from a year earlier.
