DHAKA, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh's economy is expected to recover in fiscal year (FY) 2020-21 (July 2020-June 2021) after COVID-19 outbreak induced slowdown in 2019-20 fiscal (July 2019-June 2020), according to a new Asian Development Bank (ADB) report.

The Manila-headquartered agency in its latest annual economic publication, Asian Development Outlook (ADO) 2020 published Thursday said, "gross domestic product (GDP) of Bangladesh is expected to grow by 4.5 in FY 2020 and 7.5 percent in FY 2021."

"Inflation is expected to slightly edge up to average 5.6 percent in FY 2020 on higher food prices as well as non-food prices on account of higher domestic natural gas prices. In FY 2021, it will ease to 5.5 percent on better supply conditions."

ADB came up with the forecasts days after the Bangladeshi government unveiled a record 5.68-trillion-taka (about 66.9 billion U.S. dollars) national budget for the 2020-21 fiscal year with projected economic growth of 8.2 percent.
