Malaysia's Statistics Department said in a statement that the decrease in the overall index was driven by the decline in transport, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, clothing and footwear, furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance.
However, food and non-alcoholic beverages continued to increase in June by 1.6 percent.
Core index rose 1.2 percent in June as compared to the same month of the previous year.
Meanwhile, CPI in the second quarter decreased 2.6 percent year on year.
