President Shavkat Mirziyoyev informed the government that the World Bank had agreed to allocate 500 million U.S. dollars to modernize the country's agricultural sector, the government's press service said.
According to the statement, Uzbekistan will for the first time direct a portion of the World Bank loans to develop agricultural science and innovation and upgrade the management of the sector in line with world standards.
Uzbekistan's agriculture has been dominated by cotton production for decades. The country will direct 212 million dollars to support farming cooperatives and clusters that produce fruit and vegetables.
