JAKARTA, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's annual inflation ran at a slower pace in July as consumption was still weak amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The Central Agency of Statistics announced on Monday that the annualized consumer price index eased to 1.54 percent in July compared with 1.96 percent in June.

The core inflation also edged down 2.26 percent in July on a yearly basis, compared with 2.07 percent in June, said the agency's head Kecuk Suhariyanto.

On the monthly basis, the inflation logged a minus 0.10 percent in July, compared with 0.18 percent in the previous month, Suhariyanto added.

"The global economic growth in several nations have slowed or contracted. Besides, the tension has also escalated," he told a press briefing.

July's annual inflation was below the Indonesian central bank's target of 2 percent to 4 percent this year.
