Euro area, EU inflation rates down in August

BRUSSELS, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- The inflation rate in the euro area went down to minus 0.2 percent in August compared to 0.4 percent in July, according to figures released on Thursday by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union (EU).

The EU reported a lower inflation rate as well, down from 0.9 percent in July to 0.4 percent in August.

The inflation rates in the euro area and the EU were still below the pre-COVID-19 level in 2019, when the recorded rates were one percent and 1.4 percent respectively last August.
