S.Korea posts deficit in intellectual property trade in H1

SEOUL, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- South Korea posted a deficit in the intellectual property trade during the first half of this year, central bank data showed Friday.

Trade deficit in the intellectual property rights amounted to 750 million U.S. dollars in the January-June period, but it was down from a deficit of 880 million dollars tallied a year earlier, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).

Trade in industrial property rights logged a deficit of 1.71 billion dollars in the first half, worsening from a deficit of 1.45 billion dollars a year earlier.

Patent deficit diminished to 970 million dollars in the first half from 1.34 billion dollars a year ago, while the deficit in brand and franchise rights soared from 10 million dollars to 740 million dollars.

Copyright-related deficit recorded a surplus of 1.04 billion dollars in the six-month period, up from a surplus of 740 million dollars a year earlier.
