LA PAZ, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- The president of Bolivia's state-owned oil firm Yacimientos Petroliferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB), one of the country's leading companies, resigned on Monday citing health reasons.

"Industrial engineer Richard Botello Hiza presented his resignation this Monday, Oct. 12," the YPFB said in a statement.

Botello came down as he was infected with the novel coronavirus and "now suffers some consequences that force him to distance himself from the state oil company," said the statement.

Botello, who took over the company in May, is the company's third president since Bolivia's acting president Jeanine Anez, leader of the opposition-backed interim government, took office in November 2019. Botello was preceded by Jose Luis Rivero.
