SYDNEY, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- The Australian dollar sank against the greenback on Thursday, with the safe haven currency gaining favor with investors.

At 07:00 (AEST), the Australian dollar was buying 70.45 U.S. cents, down from 71.35 U.S. cents on Wednesday.

Increasing COVID-19 case rates and restrictions in the United States and Europe hit equity markets and forced risk sensitive currencies like the Aussie lower.

The Aussie dollar fell below 71 U.S. cents to its lowest point since late last week.

At 09:30 (AEST), the local unit was buying 70.57 U.S. cents.
