SANTIAGO, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chile's economy is showing signs of recovery, President Sebastian Pinera said Monday after the Monthly Index of Economic Activity (IMACEC) of September registered its best performance since March.

"The recovery of our economy, thanks to everyone's effort, contribution and collaboration, is already underway," Pinera said.

"We have succeeded in beginning to recover the jobs we have lost, to reactivate our economy and to start up our country, but we still have a long way to go," the president added.

According to the Central Bank of Chile, though IMACEC fell 5.3 percent in September compared to the same month last year, it was the best performance since March and "left behind the double-digit percentage declines."

IMACEC is an estimate that summarizes the activity of different branches of the economy in a given month.

So far, the Chilean government has spent 30 billion U.S. dollars to spur economic recovery.
