NEW YORK, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Wall Street's major averages ended higher on Tuesday as investors awaited the outcome of the U.S. presidential election.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 554.98 points, or 2.06 percent, to 27,480.03. The S&P 500 increased 58.92 points, or 1.78 percent, to 3,369.16. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 202.96 points, or 1.85 percent, to 11,160.57.

Ten of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors advanced, with industrials closing up 2.91 percent, outpacing the rest. Energy declined 0.75 percent, the only declining group.

U.S.-listed Chinese companies traded mostly higher, with seven of the top 10 stocks by weight in the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index ending the day on an upbeat note.

Wall Street was keeping a watchful eye on the U.S. election and its implications for the markets.

"The medium-term path for markets is more contingent both on fiscal stimulus and on vaccine approval and distribution rather than the election result," Mark Haefele, analyst at UBS, said in a note.
