Speaking to the media following a virtual meeting of European Union (EU) agriculture ministers, Wojciechowski said the commission is considering specific measures to limit the spread of the devastating infectious disease of pigs, usually deadly. The analysis will look into the economic impact and will form the basis for a strategy.
"We need a more permanent solution. We have crises that repeat from time to time. That is why we need... a strategy to fight against ASF," Wojciechowski replied to media questions.
He said the discussion revolved around securing better protection of pig meat farms which were suffering as a result of the disease.
About the COVID-19 pandemic, Wojciechowski said the second wave did not hit the EU's agricultural sector as badly as the first one, since this time there were no locked borders and fewer difficulties in terms of production.
