SYDNEY, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Australian dollar edged higher against the greenback on Wednesday, as the U.S. dollar index touched a fresh two-year low.

At 07:00 (AEST), the Australian dollar was buying 73.62 U.S. cents, up from 73.45 U.S. cents on Wednesday.

The day before, Australia's central bank moved to keep the country's official interest rate on hold at 0.1 percent, saying that the economic recovery from COVID-19 was progressing faster than expected.

Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) Governor Philip Lowe said in a statement that an "improvement in risk sentiment has also been associated with a depreciation of the U.S. dollar and an appreciation of the Australian dollar."

At 09:30 (AEST), the local unit was buying 73.75 U.S. cents.
