Vietnam's footwear export down 9.6 pct in 2020

HANOI, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam reaped nearly 16.6 billion U.S. dollars from exporting footwear in 2020, posting a year-on-year decline of 9.6 percent, according to the country's Ministry of Industry and Trade on Wednesday.

The largest importers of Vietnam's footwear products included China, the European Union and the United States.

In 2020, the country also raked in more than 3.1 billion U.S. dollars from exporting handbags, wallets, suitcases, hats and umbrellas, down 16.9 percent year on year.

In 2019, Vietnam earned around 18.3 billion U.S. dollars from exporting footwear and over 3.7 billion U.S. dollars from handbags, up 12.7 percent and 9.9 percent from the previous year respectively, according to the country's General Statistics Office.
