Aussie dollar rallies towards 78 U.S. cents

SYDNEY, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Australian dollar lifted against the greenback on Friday, stalling just prior to breaking the 78 U.S.-cent mark.

At 07:00 (AEST), the Australian dollar was buying 77.88 U.S. cents, up from 77.41 U.S. cents on Thursday.

Most analysts were supportive of the idea the Aussie could break the 78 U.S.-cent barrier for a more sustained period than it did recently, on the back of a bearish U.S. dollar.

At 09:30 (AEST), the local unit was buying 77.78 U.S. cents.
