The Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased 36.98 points, or 0.12 percent, to 30,960.00. The S&P 500 rose 13.89 points, or 0.36 percent, to 3,855.36. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 92.93 points, or 0.69 percent, to 13,635.99.
Seven of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with utilities up 1.95 percent, leading the gainers. Energy slipped 1.06 percent, the worst-performing group.
