SEOUL, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's industrial output grew last month due to brisk activity in the manufacturing sector, statistical office data showed Friday.

The seasonally-adjusted production in all industries, which exclude the agriculture, forestry and fishery sectors, rose 0.5 percent in December from the previous month, according to Statistics Korea.

It continued to increase after expanding 0.8 percent in November amid the strong activity among manufacturers.

Production in the mining and manufacturing industry advanced 3.7 percent in December from a month earlier, after adding 0.3 percent in November.

Output among manufacturers went up 3.7 percent in December from the prior month.

Production in the services industry declined 1.1 percent in December, marking the first downturn in four months.

The services sector was hit hard as the government kept its five-tier social-distancing scheme at the second-highest level to tackle the COVID-19 resurgence here.

Retail sale, which reflects private consumption, added 0.2 percent in December from a month earlier, after skidding 1.0 percent in October and 0.9 percent in November each.
