Brazil's financial market raises economic growth forecast to 5.18 pct in 2021

BRASILIA, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian financial market analysts raised their forecast for gross domestic product (GDP) growth from 5.05 to 5.18 percent in 2021, while modifying their 2022 projection from 2.11 to 2.10 percent, the Central Bank of Brazil reported on Monday.

According to the bank's weekly survey of the country's top financial institutions, experts raised estimated inflation in 2021 from 5.97 to 6.07 percent, and modified it from 3.78 to 3.77 percent in 2022.

The forecast exceeds the official target of 3.75 percent in 2021, with a 1.5-percent margin of tolerance, a ceiling of 5.25 percent.

Regarding the benchmark interest rate, currently at 4.25 percent annually, economists maintained their forecast of 6.5 percent by the end of this year and raised their projection from 6.5 to 6.75 percent by the end of next year.

Analysts also revised their forecast for the Brazilian currency, which is currently 5 reals per U.S. dollar, to 5.04 reals per U.S. dollar at the end of 2021 and 5.2 reals per U.S. dollar by the end of next year.

Meanwhile, the trade balance between imports and exports is expected to reach a surplus of 68.41 billion U.S. dollars in 2021 and 60.2 billion U.S. dollars in 2022.

Experts also estimated foreign direct investment to be 55.5 billion U.S. dollars in 2021 and 69 billion U.S. dollars next year.
