U.S. stocks end mostly lower as energy, financials lag

NEW YORK, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks finished mostly lower on Wednesday, dragged down by weakness in the energy and the financials sectors.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped 266.19 points, or 0.74 percent, to 35,490.69. The S&P 500 lost 23.11 points, or 0.51 percent, to 4,551.68. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 0.12 points, or 0.0008 percent, to 15,235.84.

Nine of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with energy and financials down 2.86 percent and 1.69 percent, respectively, leading the laggards. Communication services and consumer discretionary rose 0.95 percent and 0.24 percent, respectively.

U.S.-listed Chinese companies traded mostly lower with seven of the top 10 stocks by weight in the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index ending the day on a downbeat note.

The above market reactions came as earnings season continues.

Boeing shares slipped 1.5 percent after the aircraft maker posted the third-quarter results that missed analysts' projections.

Robinhood shares slumped more than 10 percent after the U.S. financial services company reported a huge revenue miss for the third quarter.

Tech heavyweights Apple and Amazon are set to report after Thursday's close.
