S.Korean banks' lending rate rises in September

SEOUL, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- South Korean banks' lending rate rose last month following the policy rate hike, central bank data showed Friday.

The weighted average rate for new bank loans to households was an annualized rate of 3.18 percent in September, up 0.08 percentage points from the previous month, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).

It marked the highest in over two years since June 2019 following the BOK's interest rate hike from a record low of 0.50 percent to 0.75 percent in late August.

Mortgage loan rate gained 0.13 percentage points from a month earlier to 3.01 percent in September, posting the highest in two and a half years since March 2019.

Credit loan rate jumped 0.18 percentage points to 4.15 percent last month, logging the highest since June 2019.

Rate for fresh bank loans to companies advanced 0.1 percentage point over the month to 2.88 percent in September.

Rate for bank loans to big corporations rose 0.08 percentage points to 2.64 percent, and the lending rate for small firms added 0.12 percentage points to 3.05 percent.
