SEOUL, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export of information and communications technology (ICT) products kept rising for 17 straight months through October, a government report showed Thursday.

The ICT export advanced 21.5 percent over the year to 19.92 billion U.S. dollars in October, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

It continued to grow for 17 months since June last year, marking the second-highest October export of ICT products.

Global demand for locally-made tech products remained solid as the COVID-19 pandemic boosted the contact-free economy, such as shopping and services in cyberspace.

Semiconductor export jumped 28.4 percent from a year earlier to 11.23 billion dollars in October, and display panel shipment grew 5.8 percent to 2.24 billion dollars.

Mobile phone export increased 17.4 percent to 1.38 billion dollars, and those for computers and peripherals soared 48.6 percent to 1.49 billion dollars.

The ICT export to China went up 25.2 percent over the year to 9.32 billion dollars in October, and those to Vietnam, the United States and the European Union rose to 3.25 billion dollars, 2.38 billion dollars and 1.01 billion dollars respectively.

Import in the ICT sector expanded 18.5 percent to 12.11 billion dollars, sending the ICT trade surplus to 7.81 billion dollars.
