SEOUL, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's automotive production, export and local sale all fell for the second straight month in October amid the supply disruption of semiconductors, a government report showed Thursday.

The number of exported vehicles declined 18.1 percent from a year earlier to 159,520 in October, after sliding 20.7 percent in September, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

In terms of value, the automotive shipment shrank 4.7 percent to 3.83 billion U.S. dollars.

The single-digit fall in export value was attributable to strong demand for the high-priced environmentally-friendly vehicles.

The number of vehicles produced in domestic factories plunged 21.6 percent over the year to 263,723 in October.

Local automakers reduced production amid the continued supply shortage of chips used to manufacture cars.

The number of cars sold in the domestic market sank 21.1 percent to 125,296 in the cited month.

The domestic sale of locally-made vehicles dropped 21.5 percent, while the sale of imported vehicles tumbled 23.5 percent last month.
