The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 492.40 points, or 1.40 percent, to 35,719.43. The S&P 500 increased 95.08 points, or 2.07 percent, to 4,686.75. The Nasdaq Composite Index surged 461.76 points, or 3.03 percent, to 15,686.92.
All the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with technology and consumer discretionary up 3.51 percent and 2.36 percent, respectively, leading the gains.
Shares of major tech giants, including Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Meta Platforms, Microsoft and Google-parent Alphabet, all closed noticeably higher.
U.S.-listed Chinese companies traded higher with all the top 10 stocks by weight in the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index ending the day on an upbeat note.
"Relief that the Omicron variant has not spread as fast as had been feared, and reports that the symptoms of infection have been mild, have helped the markets recover," Kevin Matras, executive vice president at Zacks Investment Research, said Tuesday in a note.
