Meanwhile, in 2021 the Finnish trade deficit increased from 2.3 billion euros to 4.1 billion euros, with customs noting that the rise in import prices for energy had a significant impact on the total value of imports last year. The deficit in trade with EU countries was 3.3 billion euros, while with non-EU countries it was only 725 million euros.

In country-specific statistics for January-November 2021, exports to Russia increased the most by 21.4 percent, followed by China by 19.9 percent. Germany was the largest recipient of Finnish goods, with a share of 13.5 percent, followed by Sweden at 10.5 percent.
