Japan's household spending drops 0.2 pct year on year in December

TOKYO, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- Household spending in Japan fell a real 0.2 percent in December 2021 from a year earlier, the government said in a report on Tuesday.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Japan's household spending, a key indicator of private consumption which accounts for more than half of Japan's gross domestic product, dropped for a fifth successive month in the recording period.

Also, household spending of two or more people on average stood at 317,206 yen (2,752 U.S. dollars) in December, showed the official data.

Japan's average monthly household spending in 2021 increased 0.7 percent, marking the first rise in two years, the ministry said.
