U.S. stocks advance as tech rallies

NEW YORK, March 29 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks climbed on Tuesday, buoyed by solid gains in tech names.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 338.30 points, or 0.97 percent, to 35,294.19. The S&P 500 added 56.08 points, or 1.23 percent, to 4,631.60. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 264.74 points, or 1.84 percent, to 14,619.64.

Ten of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with real estate and technology up 2.85 percent and 2.06 percent, respectively, leading the gainers. Energy slipped 0.44 percent, the lone declining group.

U.S.-listed Chinese companies traded higher with all the top 10 stocks by weight in the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index ending the day on an upbeat note.

Investors were partly relieved following reports of positive signs in Russia-Ukraine peace talks.

The two sides held a fresh round of face-to-face peace talks in Istanbul on Tuesday. Russian chief negotiator said the talks were "constructive."

On the economic front, U.S. consumer confidence index rose slightly to 107.2 in March from the February reading of 105.7, New York-based The Conference Board reported on Tuesday. Economists polled by The Wall Street Journal had forecast the index to total in 107.5 in March.
