Philippines' total external trade up by 18.1 pct in February

MANILA, April 8 (Xinhua) -- The Philippines' total external trade in goods rose by 18.1 percent to 15.85 billion U.S. dollars in February from a year earlier, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said on Friday.

Of the total external trade in February, the statistics agency said 61.1 percent were imported goods, while the rest were exported goods. The balance of trade in goods amounted to -3.53 billion U.S. dollars, indicating a trade deficit with an annual increase of 30.3 percent.

The PSA said China was the Philippines' biggest supplier of imported goods with 18.3 percent of the total imports in February. Exports to China reached a share of 31.1 percent of the total exports.

In January, the annual increase was faster at 20.3 percent and the trade deficit recorded an annual increase of 63.9 percent.
