NEW DELHI, May 31 (Xinhua) -- India's economy recorded a growth of 8.7 percent in 2021-22 as the gross domestic product (GDP) in the fourth quarter grew by 4.1 percent, official data showed Tuesday.

"The growth in GDP during 2021-22 is estimated at 8.7 percent as compared to a contraction of 6.6 percent in 2020-21," a statement issued by India's federal ministry of statistics and program implementation said.

Thus the GDP growth for 2021-22 takes the economy above its pre-pandemic level and is an improvement after contracting 6.6 percent in 2020-21.
