SEOUL, June 28 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's retail sale logged double-digit growth in May due to alleviated measures against the COVID-19 pandemic, government data showed Tuesday.

The combined revenue by major online and offline retailers amounted to 14.45 trillion won (11.2 billion U.S. dollars) last month, up 10.1 percent from the same month of last year, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

It continued to grow for the third consecutive month as the government lifted all social-distancing rules except for an indoor mask mandate.

The daily number of confirmed COVID-19 cases hovered below 10,000 for the 19th straight day.

Revenue by online retailers advanced 11.0 percent in May from a year earlier, and sale by offline retailers expanded 9.3 percent.

Demand increased in double digits for clothing and sports items as people resumed outside activities.

Revenue by major department stores jumped 19.9 percent last month, but sale by discount outlets fell 3.0 percent on lower demand for home appliances and household items.
