SUVA, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Fiji will hold an annual Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) meeting in its capital city of Suva in July this year.

Leaders from across the Pacific region will be gathering next month for the 51st PIF and related meetings on July 11-14, the Fijian government said in a statement on Thursday.

The meeting, to be chaired by Fiji's Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, will be an opportunity to strengthen relationships and reset goals and priorities for regionalism and collective action as a Forum Family.

"The 51st Pacific Islands Forum is an opportunity for us to gather and celebrate 50 years of Pacific regionalism through the Pacific Islands Forum, and to reflect on and honor what it means to work together toward shared aspirations and objectives," said Bainimarama, who is the rotating chair of the PIF this year.

The PIF meeting will culminate in the launch of the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent which has been developed over three years and consulted widely across the region.

The 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent is a regional strategy to protect and secure the Pacific people, place and prospects. Pacific leaders recognize that building a strong and resilient Pacific needs careful planning. It must ensure social, cultural, environmental and economic integrity.

Founded in 1971, the Pacific Islands Forum is the region's premier political and economic policy organization which comprises 18 members.
