Japan's current account surplus shrinks to 944.20 billion USD in May

TOKYO, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Japan's current account surplus contracted in May, the government said in a report on Friday.

According to the Finance Ministry, the current account surplus shank to 128.4 billion yen (944.3 million U.S. dollars) in May.

Japan logged a goods trade deficit of 1.95 trillion yen (14.3 billion U.S. dollars) and a services trade deficit of 158.5 billion yen (1.17 billion U.S. dollars), among key components, the ministry's preliminary data showed.

The nation's primary income, which shows returns on overseas investments, booked a surplus of 2.4 trillion yen (17.6 billion U.S. dollars) in the recording period, the ministry said.
