Refineries operated at 94.9 percent of their operable capacity last week, said the Weekly Petroleum Data report.
During the period, both the gasoline and distillate fuel production decreased, averaging 8.9 million b/d and 5.1 million b/d respectively.
U.S. commercial crude oil inventories, excluding those in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, went up by 3.3 million barrels from the previous week to 427.1 million barrels, about 5 percent below the five year average for this time of year.
Total motor gasoline inventories surged by 5.8 million barrels last week, about 5 percent below the five year average for this time of year.
Also last week, both finished gasoline inventories and blending components inventories increased, while distillate fuel inventories rose by 2.7 million barrels, about 18 percent below the five year average for this time of year.
Propane/propylene inventories grew by 2.9 million barrels last week, about 12 percent below the five year average for this time of year. Total commercial petroleum inventories went up by 21.7 million barrels last week.
Total products supplied over the last four week period averaged 19.7 million b/d, down by 4.1 percent from the same period last year.
Over the past four weeks, motor gasoline product supplied averaged 8.7 million b/d, down by 8.0 percent from the same period last year.
Distillate fuel product supplied averaged 3.8 million b/d over the past four weeks, up by 0.4 percent from the same period last year.
Jet fuel product supplied was up 6.6 percent compared with the same four week period last year.
