MANILA, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- The unemployment rate in the Philippines dipped to 5.2 percent in July, with 2.6 million of the Filipino labor force jobless, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said on Thursday.

The unemployment rate in July was the lowest reported this year, PSA head Dennis Mapa told reporters, saying the unemployed population is around 400,000 lower than the number registered in June.

Many of the areas in the Philippines are now under COVID-19 alert level one, the lowest of the five-tiered pandemic restrictions. The low COVID-19 daily case count and the lenient rules allow the country to open many businesses providing jobs to people.
