NEW YORK, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Wall Street's three major averages climbed on Monday, as energy and tech sectors led the broad market higher.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 229.63 points, or 0.71 percent, to 32,381.34. The S&P 500 increased 43.05 points, or 1.06 percent, to 4,110.41. The Nasdaq Composite Index added 154.10 points, or 1.27 percent, to 12,266.41.

All the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with energy and technology up 1.81 percent and 1.63 percent, respectively, leading the gains.

Wall Street continued to evaluate the Federal Reserve's upcoming rate decision. Market expectations ticked up that the U.S. central bank is likely to opt for a third consecutive 75-basis-point rate rise at its meeting later this month.

Last week, Fed Chair Jerome Powell reiterated the Fed's commitment to fighting inflation and not quitting until the job is done.

Investors also awaited a slew of economic highlights, including the August U.S. consumer price index on Tuesday, the producer price index on Wednesday, and retail sales on Thursday.

For the week ending Friday, the Dow gained 2.7 percent, the S&P 500 climbed 3.6 percent and the Nasdaq advanced 4.1 percent.
