The INSEE said that year-on-year CPI increased by 6.1 percent in July in its final report.
"This slight decrease in inflation resulted from the slowdown in energy prices, in particular petroleum product prices," the institute explained.
According to the INSEE, the year-on-year increase in petroleum product prices was less sharp in August than in July. The rise in prices of electricity and gas also slowed down, it said.
On Wednesday, French Economy and Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said that high inflation would begin to decelerate in 2023.
"The peak of inflation will be spread over several months in the future, in particular December, January and February, because of energy prices, which remain very high," he explained.
